Unblocking Proxy/Anonymizer through OpenDNS customization settings…

September 3rd, 2008

I just solved the issue with OpenDNS. I didn’t realize that using the pre-configured “Minimal Settings” could block Proxy/Anonymizer websites. Have a look at the OpenDNS customization image below. Also, I realize that I can solve the problem of my brother’s company (too much people accessing Social networking websites) just pointing the network to use OpenDNS and setting the Social Networking…

So simple as it is. Thanks Mike for your comment…Sorry OpenDNS for my stupidity. :) First time OpenDNS user…

OpenDNS just blocked me to see a website!

September 2nd, 2008

I was navigating right now researching a tool called Tor (www.torproject.org), when I tried to go to the project website and I was blocked by OpenDNS. I thought OpenDNS could help me, but I just felt like someone took my freedom off. Check out the message:

Is Claro playing fair with iPhone in Brazil?

August 31st, 2008

Accordingly with UOL Tecnologia (link), you have to pay if you want to enter in the queue to get the new iPhone 3G in Brazil. Claro is the operator responsible to delivery the new iPhone out there and probably starting from October this year. The price you have to pay to enter into the queue is around £33.00. It is 1/3 of the price here in UK if you buy it with 18 months contract and 8Gb of space. Also, you need to pay around £468,00 to get the phone. It gives a total of approx. £500.00. It’s absolutely non-sense and I believe Apple should take some action. In Argentina, the price is around $300.00 (American dollars) with a 18 months contract.

I would like to hear from Claro why this phone is so expensive comparing with our neighbors “los hermanos”. If you compare with the basic salary in Brazil (link), which is approx. £150.00, a person who earns this amount monthly must save 3 months and a half to buy the iPhone if he/she doesn’t spend anything else!!! Of course, this is going to push more and more the illegally importation of iPhone from USA and Europe. If the government wants to finish with the illegally importation, they must start cutting the tax of these equipments, which is becoming more and more desirable to countries in development. iPhone will continue to be a privilege of rich people in Brazil, of course, if they want to have it legally.

Just my first post…

August 29th, 2008

Hello guys ! I’m back with my blog. Now, I’m here to stay. I will try to make sure that my English will have as little errors as possible, but, as I never studied English for more than 3 months, I can’t guarantee that everything is right. Sorry in advance.

My native language is Portuguese, but as I would like to spread my idea not just for my friends in Brazil but for my friends in Mars, Saturn and other planets, I will be writing in International Language.

I’m Computer Scientist by graduation, by nature and by passion. My best skill is programming. C/C++ is my strongest (8 years experience plus lots of years before university), PHP, Python, Java and Javascript are my daily hobbies and C#, Nant, Perl, and SQL my actual job. Actually, I’m doing a self-training in Web Services concept and practice- using and studying JSON, REST, RPC, Rhino, XML, WSDL, etc… all these acronyms and words are running through my head since a while ago.

At my job, I’ve been holding a position of QA & Build Manager and helping the development team in the SDLC (trying to apply standards and keep the SDLC processes as clean as possible). I also get my hands on white box testing… it’s quite busy my days, but I like it A LOT. The reason of being in QA is because I’m really persistent in quality of software and, quoting from an article of IEEE Software (1997), “clean pipe produce dirty water?” Yes. In my job? Nop.

Well, this is just a bit of myself since I came to live in Great Britain, in 2005. I’m actually living in Reading (Berkshire), were I feel at home (technologically speaking of course, missing BRAZIL-ZIL).

Let’s talk about everything, exchange ideas, codes, opinions and experience!

Cheers!
